چکیده
Abstract The biodiversity of natural or semi-natural native, old oak woodlands have high conservation importance, especially in landscapes monocultural forest plantations and arable fields. With a wider variety microhabitats foraging sources, such forests can provide essential habitat for native bird communities. We conducted study using point counts to compare the communities pedunculate ( Quercus robur ) remnants with non-native central Hungary landscape mostly fields, settlements, plantations. Avian surveys were carried out remnants, middle-aged oak, white poplar Populus alba ), hybrid × euramericana black locust Robinia pseudoacacia pine Pinus spp.) Fieldwork has been nine sites, where all six types represented (with few exceptions), determine total abundance, species richness, Shannon–Wiener diversity, evenness, dominant indicator species, guild abundances. found that most diverse habitats among studied types, while exhibited lowest avian biodiversity. guilds sensitive loss ground foragers, bark cavity-nesters, residents, Mediterranean migratory birds. Native more than Our results suggest it is important conserve remaining stands avoid clear-cutting favour practices as mixed-species plantations, longer rotation lengths, retention forestry.

Explaining bird species composition and richness in eucalypt-dominated remnants in subhumid Tasmania
Aim To determine the factors influencing the distribution of birds in remnants in a fragmented agricultural landscape. Location Forty-seven eucalypt remnants and six sites in continuous forest in the subhumid Midlands region of Tasmania, Australia. Methods Sites were censused over a two-year period, and environmental data were collected for remnants. The avifauna of the sites was classified and...
متن کاملSensitivity of understorey bird species in two different successional stages of the lowland Atlantic Forest, Brazil.
The Atlantic Forest has a high destruction rate and there is little information available on some aspects of the neotropical bird biology. Changes in environment are important factors that affect the resources available to birds. We compared the species sensitivity level of understorey birds in two areas in distinct successional stages (primary and secondary sections). Two 100 ha plots of lowla...
متن کاملAssociations of forest cover, fragment area, and connectivity with neotropical understory bird species richness and abundance.
Theoretical and empirical studies demonstrate that the total amount of forest and the size and connectivity of fragments have nonlinear effects on species survival. We tested how habitat amount and configuration affect understory bird species richness and abundance. We used mist nets (almost 34,000 net hours) to sample birds in 53 Atlantic Forest fragments in southeastern Brazil. Fragments were...
متن کاملAssociations of forest bird species richness with housing and landscape patterns across the USA.
In the United States, housing density has substantially increased in and adjacent to forests. Our goal in this study was to identify how housing density and human populations are associated with avian diversity. We compared these associations to those between landscape pattern and avian diversity, and we examined how these associations vary across the conterminous forested United States. Using ...
متن کاملIntraspecific and interspecific competition induces density‐dependent habitat niche shifts in an endangered steppe bird
Interspecific competition is a dominant force in animal communities that induces niche shifts in ecological and evolutionary time. If competition occurs, niche expansion can be expected when the competitor disappears because resources previously inaccessible due to competitive constraints can then be exploited (i.e., ecological release). Here, we aimed to determine the potential effects of inte...
